Rafael Furcal Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Rafael Furcal MLB and fantasy baseball news
Fri, 03 May 2013 11:35:48 -0700 The St. Louis Cardinals transferred SS Rafael Furcal (elbow) to the 60-day disabled list Friday, May 3.
Fri, 15 Mar 2013 10:49:40 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal (elbow), as expected, underwent surgery Wednesday, March 13, to repair his ulnar collateral ligament and have a bone spur taken care of. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews. "We heard everything went as well as could be expected," said manager Mike Matheny. Fantasy Tip: Furcal's contract with St. Louis is up after this season, and he'll be 36 entering the 2014 campaign, so he won't be the hottest free-agent commodity. He may struggle to regain fantasy value, even in NL-only leagues. He could consider retirement, but this is purely speculation.
Sat, 09 Mar 2013 01:45:33 -0800 Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday, March 13, in Pensacola, Fla. He is expected to miss the entire season but hopes to participate in the Dominican Winter League to prove that he can still play. Furcal said he is experiencing so much pain in his right elbow that he is unable to touch the top of his head with his arm. He is eligible to become a free agent after the 2013 season.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 10:16:02 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal (elbow) expects to have the bone spur in his elbow removed at the same time he undergoes Tommy John surgery. Furcal thinks he'll have the operation at some point next week. St. Louis will go with either SSs Pete Kozma or Ronny Cedeno at shortstop with Furcal out for the season. "The way we look at it right now it is certainly going to be a competition between Kozma and Cedeno but there's no doubt that given what Kozma did for us in the last six weeks of the season last year that we so have a high level on confidence that he can continue to do that," general manager John Mozeliak said.

Mon, 04 Mar 2013 15:41:34 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal (elbow) is a long shot to be ready for opening day after he'll receive a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews Wednesday, March 6, according to general manager John Mozeliak. Sat, 02 Mar 2013 23:18:29 -0800 St. Louis Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal (elbow) has felt worse the more he stepped up his throwing program the last few days, and as a result the team is shutting down his activities. Asked if he will be ready for Opening Day on April 1, Furcal said: "I don't know. I wish to know if I will be ready. But you never know." SS Pete Kozma may be pressed into duty if Furcal can't go.
