Washington Nationals OF Mark DeRosa (oblique) underwent an MRI exam Wednesday, May 2, which revealed an oblique strain. He could be out two to three weeks and possibly longer. DeRosa received a platelet-rich plasma injection.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) was a last-minute scratch from the starting lineup Saturday, April 21, against the Miami Marlins, because of mild right shoulder inflammation. A team spokesman said there is "no structural damage in the least" and he is listed as day-to-day. Manager Davey Johnson had previously announced that Zimmerman was scheduled to receive his first off day of the season on Sunday, April 22. 3B Mark DeRosa replaced Zimmerman in the lineup on Saturday, batting third.

With Washington Nationals OF Rick Ankiel back from the disabled list, manager Davey Johnson indicated that SS Steve Lombardozzi is out of the possible outfield rotation. OFs Roger Bernadina, Mark DeRosa and Xavier Nady have all been sharing time in left field.

Nationals | Rick Ankiel to be activated Saturday

Washington Nationals OF Rick Ankiel (quadriceps) will be activated from the disabled list Saturday, April 14, where he will become the starting center fielder over OF Roger Bernadina. "He's in great shape," manager Davey Johnson said. "He had a great rehab program. Did awfully well. He's still fine. He had a great workout with the boys. He looks good to go." OFs Steve Lombardozzi and Brett Carroll are candidates to be sent down. Johnson plans to play Ankiel on an everyday basis. It's unlikely that OF Mark DeRosa will play much at first base with Bernadina moving to left field.
