Former SS Mike Bordick probably won't be hired as a coach by the Baltimore Orioles. Bill Castro is a candidate to serve as bullpen coach. Former Boston Red Sox first base coach Ron Johnson is a candidate to manage Triple-A Norfolk. Gary Allenson is expected to be reassigned.

The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly and Jeff Zrebiec report the Baltimore Orioles signed a one-year deal with former SS Mike Bordick this month to become its new minor league offensive coordinator. Bordick, 44, will be responsible for working with the club's prospects on offensive fundamentals such as base running, bunting and situational hitting. "Basically, it'll be getting guys to understand the importance of small ball. The game has kind of trended away from the three-run home run," said Bordick. "A lot of times it is about getting into scoring position and taking advantage of those situations when you need to score runs, especially in the AL East."

The Associated Press reports Baltimore Orioles SS Miguel Tejada drove in 31 runs during the month of April to break the franchise RBI record for April. Mike Bordick held the previous record, which was set in 2000.

Sandy Burgin, writing for BlueJays.MLB.com, reports Toronto Blue Jays SS Mike Bordick has extended his hitting streak to 12 games after two hits Sunday for the Blue Jays. He now has four consecutive multi-hit games as Bordick has hit 8-of-15 in that span.

The AP reports Toronto Blue Jays SS Chris Woodward, who has a team-high 17 errors, has lost his starting job to veteran Mike Bordick. "I don't think Chris is drowning, but he isn't a world class swimmer yet," Toronto manager Carlos Tosca said.
