The Arizona Diamondbacks have extended the contracts of most of the members of manager Kirk Gibson's coaching staff for an additional year. First base coach Eric Young, third base coach Matt Williams, bench coach Alan Trammell, bullpen coach Glenn Sherlock and pitching coach Charles Nagy had their contracts extended through the 2013 season. Hitting coach Don Baylor has not yet received an extension because he is managing a winter ball team in Venezuela and the Diamondbacks have been unable to contact him. However, general manager Kevin Towers said the team will extend Baylor's contract as soon as possible.

Steve Gilbert, of MLB.com, reports the Arizona Diamondbacks added Matt Williams and Bo Porter to their coaching staff Wednesday, Nov. 11. Williams will be the first base coach/infielders coach and Porter will serve as the third base coach/outfielders coach. The team also reached a new deal with bullpen coach Glenn Sherlock.

FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi reports the Arizona Diamondbacks are considering former 3B Matt Williams for either the third base coach or first base coach jobs.

According to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, former major-league 3B Matt Williams is on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2009.

Former Major League Baseball IF Matt Williams has been named in the Mitchell Report. Williams was reported to have purchased human growth hormone, steroids, syringes, and other drugs from the Palm Beach Rejuvenation Center in 2002 when playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Sports Network reports former Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Matt Williams purchased $11,600 worth of steroids and other drugs during the 2002 season. Williams admitted during a phone interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that he purchased human growth hormone under the advice of a doctor to heal an injured ankle.

The Associated Press reports Brett Butler, manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks Double-A affiliate, underwent tests that revealed the stroke he suffered in July was caused by radiation treatment he received for throat cancer 11 years ago. Because of the six month recovery time, Butler will not manage the rest of the season. Interim manager Matt Williams will close out the season.

The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports three former Major League Baseball players, including two ex-Arizona Diamondbacks, will serve as Diamondback instructors during the team's spring camp. Former Diamondbacks IF and bench coach Jay Bell and former 3B Matt Williams also will be in camp as special instructors, as will former San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals 1B Will Clark.

Bob Nightengale, of USAToday.com, reports that former 3B Matt Williams has surfaced as a leading candidate to become general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks if Joe Garagiola, Jr. leaves for a job with Major League Baseball.
