Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said that manager Robin Ventura will return for a third season next year. "I want to be back," Ventura said. "Per our conversations dating back a while, we have planned for the future (together). We had to start trading players at the deadline, so the rest of the season has been about evaluating and moving forward."

Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura addressed rumors that he wants out of Chicago with a firm denial. "For one reason or another, there is a whisper that because it is going the way it is, I am not going to come back," Ventura said before the game. "That is the furthest thing from the truth. For me, I'm in it for as long as I'm in it, and then you go from there." Ventura returned over the weekend after a two-game absence to watch his daughter's high school graduation in California.

Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn is confident in CL Addison Reed to open up the season as the ninth-inning pitcher, but Hahn said he wants manager Robin Ventura to have flexibility to use other relievers like RP's Matt Thornton, Jesse Crain and Matt Lindstrom. "Obviously (Reed) established himself last year," Hahn said. "At the same time ... I feel that Robin should have the depth, knock on wood, and alternatives to play the best matchup."

Chicago White Sox 1B Adam Dunn entered the Tuesday, April 17, game hitting .206 (7-for-34), with nine strikeouts in his last 20 at-bats. White Sox manager Robin Ventura expressed patience in assessing Dunn's situation. "He's doing fine," Ventura said. "Again, he's going to have strikeouts, but you want him to be aggressive and go to the plate with confidence, and he's done that. Even in the work he's done in spring, what he's done here, I likes what he's doing, I like what you're going to see from him in the future."

Updating previous reports, Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he doesn't feel the need to name his closer. "I just do not feel the need to announce it," the first-year manager said. "It's not going to be the same guy all the time. ... It will end up being different at different times of the season." Ventura also indicated that he could play the matchups in the ninth inning.
