Orioles.MLB.com's Gary Washburn reports Baltimore Orioles 3B Chris Stynes (leg) is likely out for the year after fouling a ball off his left tibia. The tibia suffered several breaks and he had surgery to insert a metal plate in the leg.

The Associated Press reports the Pittsburgh Pirates signed 2B Chris Stynes (Rockies) to a one-year, $975,000 deal. The contract calls for a $750,000 salary next year and a $1,425,000 club option for 2005 with a $225,000 buyout.

The Star-Telegram’s T.R. Sullivan reports the Colorado Rockies are looking for help at the shortstop position after starter SS Juan Uribe (foot) broke his right foot. Uribe is expected to be out for up to 10 weeks. SS Jose Hernandez is currently playing shortstop, but the team wanted to try him out at third base, currently being held down by 3B Greg Norton and 3B Chris Stynes.
