Updating an earlier item, The Star-Ledger's Jeremy Cothran, in the "Ledger on Mets" blog, reports New York Mets minor league IF Olmedo Saenz has also received an invitation to attend spring training. He's been primarily a pinch-hitting specialist, but he hit only .191 with four home runs and 18 RBIs last year with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports Los Angeles Dodgers IF Olmedo Saenz will wait until the offseason to make a decision on retirement. He is in the final season of a two-year contract with the Dodgers and will become a free agent at season's end.

Dodgers | Saenz will DH at least one game against Angels

Ken Gurnick, of LosAngeles.Dodgers.MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Olmedo Saenz will be the team's designated hitter Friday, May 18, and will likely fill that role in at least one of the team's other games this weekend. Saenz will be in the lineup because the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are starting all right-handed pitchers during their weekend series. Left-handed hitting 3B Wilson Betemit could also get a start at designated hitter Saturday, May 19, because Angels SP Jered Weaver is on the mound. Left-handed batters are hitting .356 against Weaver this season.

The Orange County Register's K.J.M. Singleton reports Los Angeles Dodgers IF Olmedo Saenz now has six home runs and 21 RBI in 49 at-bats against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Saenz went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and a walk on Sunday, April 22, to increase his average to .453 lifetime against Pittsburgh.

Ken Gurnick, of Dodgers.MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers manager Grady Little has announced his starting lineup for the Thursday, March 1, opener against the Atlanta Braves. SS Rafael Furcal will lead off followed by OF Juan Pierre, OF Matt Kemp, 1B Olmedo Saenz, 3B Wilson Betemit, C Russell Martin, OF Andre Ethier and 2B Ramon Martinez.

Dodgers.MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Wilson Betemit will be first in line for the starting third base job. Betemit, who turns 25 this year, hit 18 home runs last year as a switch-hitter. The team also has young 3B Andy LaRoche, along with IF Olmedo Saenz and utility IF Ramon Martinez, as options at third base.
