Sun, 31 Mar 2013 10:53:50 -0700 Confirming a previous report, Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco is expected to bat cleanup for the first time in his career Monday, April 1, against the Washington Nationals. He has started 1,606 MLB games in his career.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 13:42:04 -0700 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco could hit cleanup behind OF Giancarlo Stanton this year. "It's one of those things where we're going to have a lot of different guys hitting probably in a lot of different spots," manager Mike Redmond said. "I like Polanco hitting there. He gives you a veteran bat, a guy who puts the ball in play. He can hit behind runners. He can hit and run. He handles the bat well and might be a nice fit behind Stanton." Fantasy Tip: Back issues continue to be a problem for Polanco, and a very solid contact rate is pretty much the only thing he has going for him these days. He's a very bland fantasy commodity that only warrants attention in NL-only leagues.
Fri, 08 Mar 2013 16:27:09 -0800 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (back) will sit out a few more games while dealing with back spasms. "He's having that same problem," manager Mike Redmond said. "No timetable. He's got to figure out what's going on, what's grabbing on him and where he is." OF Justin Ruggiano (back) is scheduled to play Saturday, March 9, in center field. OF Jake Marisnick (hand) hit in the cages and did fielding drills Friday, March 8. 3B Greg Dobbs (calf) continues to do drills but isn't playing in games.
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 08:50:05 -0800 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (back) is expected to return to spring action Wednesday, March 6. 3B Greg Dobbs (calf) is expected to be sidelined a few days with a strained calf.
Sun, 03 Mar 2013 09:17:17 -0800 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (back) has been bothered by mild back tightness and is hopeful of returning to action in a few days.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 10:58:27 -0800 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (tooth) did not participate in workouts Monday, Feb. 18, because he was undergoing a root canal.
Tue, 29 Jan 2013 21:19:06 -0800 Miami Marlins executive Larry Beinfest said Tuesday, Jan. 29, that because 3B Placido Polanco is "coming off injury, it's realistic to say (he's) probably not going to be an everyday player. If he's at third five days a week, it's going to be terrific. (3B Greg Dobbs) can still play over there against tough right-handers."
Wed, 09 Jan 2013 21:04:49 -0800 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (back) said Wednesday, Jan. 9, that he is physically prepared for a full season as the team's third baseman. He also said his back is healthy. "I still had problems (in 2012), a lot of scar tissue and that area was weak. I was compensating a lot with my back and other parts of my body. Thank God, all that is in the past and I feel very healthy," Polanco said. Fantasy Tip: The team did not talk to Polanco about playing anywhere else but third base, but he has played plenty of second base before. If 2B Donovan Solano struggles, and 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff takes off, Polanco could potentially shift spots. Polanco is worth a look in all NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats in the later rounds on draft day.
Thu, 20 Dec 2012 12:33:16 -0800 Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco can earn an extra $125,000 next year if he appears in 100 games and another $125,000 if he appears in 120 games.
Thu, 20 Dec 2012 08:42:01 -0800 The Miami Marlins agreed to a one-year, $2.75 million deal with free-agent 3B Placido Polanco (Phillies), pending a physical.
