Larry Santana, of Angels.MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said the team did not designate 1B Shea Hillenbrand for assignment because of his recent comments to the Los Angeles Times. Scioscia commented that Hillenbrand, who recently suggested to the Los Angeles Times that he might like to be traded, was no longer a necessity to have on the team's roster. "He's too young to be sitting around here for two months and not really getting a chance to be productive," Scioscia said. "We got some other bats that are swinging, that are working right now."

Mike DiGiovanna, of the Los Angeles Times, reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Shea Hillenbrand would like to be moved from the team unless he is given more playing time. "I feel like I'm being pushed aside, put on a back-burner, and I don't like that at all," Hillenbrand said. "If I'm not going to play here, give me enough respect to trade me or get rid of me. I think I deserve that." Hillenbrand also said it has nothing to do with the team, the city, the manager or anything else, but the situation has been difficult. According to Hillenbrand's agent Dan Lozano, Angels general manager Bill Stoneman said Hillenbrand would be moved if a deal could be worked out that would benefit both teams. Hillenbrand is hitting just .254 with three home runs, five doubles and 22 RBI this season.
