The Associated Press reports former NFL QB Clint Stoerner faces a drunken-driving charge and other misdemeanor counts after he was stopped by an officer early Friday, Sept. 28, for driving a car playing music too loud, according to police and court records. Police administered a field sobriety test to Stoerner, which "indicated that he was intoxicated," and he was arrested and taken to the Washington County (Ark.) Jail. Stoerner was charged with driving while intoxicated, violation of the implied-consent law requiring a driver to submit to a breath-analysis test if requested by police and violation of the city's motor-vehicle sound limit ordinance. He was released later in the morning on $880 bond. He faces a court date on the sound-ordinance violation charge Monday, Oct. 1. He will appear in court Nov. 5 for the DWI charge.

The Sun-Sentinel reports the Miami Dolphins brought in free agent QB Clint Stoerner for a workout on Tuesday, Aug. 26, but said they hadn't made a decision on signing him. Head coach Dave Wannstedt said they were interested in signing Stoerner or another eligible quarterback to the practice squad and would go with two quarterbacks while backup Brian Griese (toe) is out with a toe injury.

DallasCowboys.com reports the Dallas Cowboys quarterback position is up for grabs, according to head coach Bill Parcells. Despite replacing Cowboys QB Quincy Carter for the last nine games of the season, QB Chad Hutchinson will have to beat out Carter again this season. When the Cowboys opened up their six-day minicamp on Monday, May 19, both quarterbacks shared the same number of practice snaps. The two each saw 40 percent of the reps, with third-stringer Clint Stoerner seeing 20 percent of the reps.

The Dallas Morning News reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo and owner/GM Jerry Jones want QB Chad Hutchinson to win the No. 2 quarterback job for two reasons: 1) he has more physical talent than the other QBs competing for it 2) they don't want him to be inactive this year. So far, he's been splitting reps with starter Quincy Carter while Clint Stoerner has been getting the leftovers. Campo said that Hutchinson has been a little rusty but he's picking things up.

As an update to an earlier story, Dallas Cowboys.com reports it does not appear newly signed QB Chad Hutchinson will compete for the starting QB job his first season. "Our plans do not include Chad being involved in the competition for the starter's job this summer," owner/GM Jerry Jones added. QB Ryan Leaf and possibly Hutchinson could compete for the No. 2 QB job along with Clint Stoerner and Anthony Wright, as soon as he is healthy. With the Cowboys willing to let Hutchinson ease back into football, the backup job will go to either Leaf, Wright or Stoerner, with at least one, if not the other two, out of jobs.

Several names mentioned are: C Mark Stepnoski, TE Jackie Harris, FS George Teague, G Ben Fricke, TE/LS Mike Solwold, G Alcender Jackson, FB Robert Thomas, QB Clint Stoerner, TE James Whalen and WR Darrin Chiaverini. Harris and Stepnoski can't be on the list together. Stepnoski's salary increases from $477,000 to $2.75 million next season.

Dave Goldberg reports for the Associated Press Dallas Cowboys QB Ryan Leaf made his debut for the team today. "Fourth quarter, tie game, Giants Stadium and you're on your own 3-yard line," Leaf said. "You'd like it to be easier." Starting QB Clint Stoerner threw four interceptions in the second half to let the Giants back into a game. Stoerner's problems also mean that Leaf will probably start next week against Atlanta - the game the Cowboys were targeting him for when they signed him three weeks ago. "We'll have to decide that later in the week," coach Dave Campo said. Final stats for Leaf: 4-of-8 for 85 yards.

ESPN reports Dallas Cowboys QB Anthony Wright's right knee injury is more serious than expected and likely will keep him out against the Cardinals this Sunday. Coach Dave Campo said Wednesday QB Clint Stoerner would start ahead of Ryan Leaf. Campo said there was a good chance Leaf would play, if not start. "Clint understands the offense, and knows what we are trying to get accomplished," Campo said. "At this point, if Anthony can't go, I don't see that changing before the end of the week." The Cowboys are expected to make a decision Friday.
