Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre is hitting only .221 with four home runs and nine RBIs to start the year. "I've always been a slow starter," said Beltre, who is a .273 hitter for his career in April. "Probably out of my 16 years in the big leagues, only about five have been started on a hot streak. One thing I've learned through the years is it's a long season and I know I'm going to be okay. I've been through this a lot. I don't want to get myself crazy over this."

Beltre is expected to hit cleanup this year, with 1B Lance Berkman likely hitting third and OFs Nelson Cruz and David Murphy alternating in the fifth spot.

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (calf) remains sidelined due to a strained right calf muscle, although he is taking batting practice, running the bases and taking ground balls. There is no timetable on when he'll play in a Cactus League spring game, and the weather has been rather cold in the morning, and cool in the afternoon. "We've still been able to get our work in," manager Ron Washington said Wednesday, Feb. 27. "It's not so much the cold as the wind."

Texas Rangers 1B Lance Berkman (calf) will make his spring debut Thursday, Feb. 28, after being bothered by a mild right calf strain. He has been doing workouts and baserunning drills and will serve as the designated hitter Thursday. 3B Adrian Beltre (calf) is "still progressing well" from his calf strain, but it's unknown when he'll get into a spring training game.
