He is considered day-to-day, according to manager Bob Geren. The move meant OF Nick Swisher started in center field while IF Todd Walker got his first start of the season at first base.

Updating a previous item, the Major League Baseball Players Association plans to file a grievance over the release of 2B Todd Walker from the San Diego Padres. Walker was waived on March 27, a little more than a month after he won a $3.95 million salary in arbitration. Because the contract wasn't guaranteed, the Padres will owe Walker just 45 days' termination pay, or $971,311.

Corey Brock, of Padres.MLB.com, reports the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) is looking into the release of IF Todd Walker by the San Diego Padres. "The union is looking into the release," Brian Carlin, Walker's agent, said, "and has serious questions about the Padres' motives. Union representatives have assured us they will do everything necessary to protect and vindicate Todd's rights."
