The New York Mets have cut six players from their roster, according to USA TODAY. The Mets released IF Jose Valentin, IF Junior Spivey and P Tony Armas Jr. OF Bobby Kielty and P Elmer Dessens were sent to their minor league camp and P Fernando Nieve was waived.

Adam Rubin, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Mets signed free-agent 2B Junior Spivey (Red Sox) to a minor league deal Monday, March 16. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Junior Spivey was among 35 players to file for free agency on Oct. 2, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Spivey, signed to a $1.2 million deal last winter, elected for free agency on the first day available to players, according to collectively bargained rules.

Fox Sports Midwest reports St. Louis Cardinals 2B Junior Spivey is hitting .262 in 11 games at Triple-A Memphis. His callup is not imminent.

Updating previous reports, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold and Joe Strauss report St. Louis Cardinals 2B Junior Spivey was designated for assignment. He will report to Triple-A Memphis unless he's claimed off waivers, which is highly unlikely because of his $1.2 million salary that comes with him. Spivey, as reported earlier, had to accept the assignment to the minors.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz broke news that St. Louis Cardinals 2B Junior Spivey will accept his assignment to Triple-A Memphis, but official word will come later.
