Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said Friday, Jan. 13, that he might be open to a deal if the team deals him to a winner. Soriano has control of his fate with 10-and-5 no-trade rights. "It has to be good for me and my family for me to agree (to a trade). I'm comfortable with the Cubs," Soriano said. "I won't go to just any team. I want to be with a contender. I also want to be in the playoffs again. So I'd have to be comfortable with both the team and the city I get traded to." The biggest sticking point if that Soriano is owed $54 million over the next three seasons.

Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano has $54 million remaining on his contract, and the team has been unable to find any takers willing to take on a decent portion of the remaining salary. As such, it appears Soriano will open the season as the team's starting left fielder.

The Chicago Cubs are still open to the idea of trading OF Alfonso Soriano in the right deal. A potential trade will likely come down to how much of Soriano's remaining contract they will have to eat. He is due $54 million over the next three years. As many as eight American League teams have shown interest in Soriano, including the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim before they signed 1B Albert Pujols.
