Thu, 02 May 2013 00:20:34 -0700 Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said he has no intention of moving OF Alfonso Soriano down in the order because of his lack of production in April. Soriano went into the final game of the month with one home run and two RBIs, hitting .095 with runners in scoring position. Sveum has used Soriano in the clean-up spot in all 25 of Soriano's starts.
Tue, 05 Mar 2013 14:46:09 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano has worked hard in the offseason to make sure his legs and lower body are in shape for the grueling season, especially as he gets older. "I'm 37, but I feel better with age," Soriano said. "If I work, my body feels better and my brain feels better, too. Before I didn't work that much but now that I'm older, I need to work to keep my body in shape and my body warm. I think that makes me more confident in myself." Soriano feels healthy this spring, although he's been dealing with a tight left calf, but he is realistic and doesn't want to attempt to play in all 162 games.
Mon, 25 Feb 2013 12:27:35 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said he'd be open to the possibility of a trade to the New York Yankees. "I don't know if it happened today (if I would go)," Soriano said. "I don't know (if) they are going to call or not. If they call for me, I would have to think about it. I am 37 years old so I have to think about what is good for me and the (Cubs)." Soriano has full no-trade rights because he is a 10-and-5 player. However, the Yankees have few resources to offer the Cubs in terms of minor league pitching talent. OF Curtis Granderson (forearm) could be back by early May, which may convince the Yankees to sit tight.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 11:57:24 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said his agent and the team have an understanding of the six or seven teams he would be willing to be traded to if the team wants to move him.
Fri, 08 Feb 2013 20:45:07 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano is projected to bat cleanup in manager Dale Sveum's lineup between 1B Anthony Rizzo (third) and 3B Ian Stewart (fifth).
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 13:14:23 -0800 The Chicago Cubs could be able to trade OF Alfonso Soriano before the start of spring training because some teams are looking to improve.
Thu, 24 Jan 2013 09:36:36 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said he doesn't want to be rested frequently, especially after the team signed OF Scott Hairston, who could possibly be used to give Soriano more breathers throughout the season. "That's what they said to me last year, and I played a lot of games," said Soriano, who hit 32 home runs and drove in 108 runs in 151 games, his highest number of games played since joining the Cubs in 2007. "This year, I'm ready to play every day. I don't like to have a day off. I know I'm 37 years old, but I don't feel like it. I feel like I'm 25, 26, and that's what I want to do is play every day to win." Hairston could wind up in a platoon with OF Nate Schierholtz in right field.
Wed, 23 Jan 2013 09:26:43 -0800 The Baltimore Orioles are not close to acquiring Arizona Diamondbacks OF Jason Kubel, and it's unlikely they will land both Kubel and Detroit Tigers SP Rick Porcello, who the O's are also interested in. Other possibilities for the Orioles include re-signing SP Joe Saunders or trading for Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano, whom they have also pursued in a trade. The Cubs would need to take on the bulk of Soriano's remaining $36 million salary over the next two years, though. And Soriano would need to waive his no-trade clause. The Orioles may be willing to offer up RP Jim Johnson in order to acquire Porcello from the Tigers.
Sun, 20 Jan 2013 20:58:38 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano received a call about playing for Team Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, but he did not pursue it in order to focus on getting ready for spring training. "I'm ready to play hard, here or (with) another team," Soriano said, "because this is my job and this is what I like to do."
Sun, 20 Jan 2013 20:58:02 -0800 Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said he wants to be with the team when the club contends. "I want to stay here and finish my career here and try to win before I retire," Soriano said. "I signed here to be a World Series winner in Chicago. It's a long time (since they won it). That's my thing. I hope to stay here, and when they win, I want to be a part of it."
