However, the team is considering trying to bring in another veteran after releasing 2B Pokey Reese. Uggla hit .297 with 21 home runs with Double-A Tennessee last year but also made 25 errors.

The Florida Marlins have terminated the contract of 2B Pokey Reese, after having not received an explanation for his sudden disappearance from spring training camp, according to the Associated Press. "I think that the 72 hours that have passed is more than a reasonable amount of time for him to offer some explanation for his unexcused absence," general manager Larry Beinfest said. "We still do not have that explanation, and we're moving on."

Florida Marlins 2B Pokey Reese failed to show up for two consecutive days of spring training camp without explanation, briefly raising concerns about his whereabouts before he contacted his agent Friday, Mar. 3, according to the Associated Press. General manager Larry Beinfest said Reese gave no indication he was taking time off, but Mike Nicotera, Reese's agent, contacted the club to let them know he was safe.

Larry LaRue, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Mariners SS Pokey Reese (shoulder) has been advised to have a second surgery performed on his right shoulder after consulting with Dr. Lewis Yocum in Southern California recently. Reese, who had been signed to a one-year deal back in January, has missed the entire season thus far.
