In his two starts this preseason, he's had 15 possessions ending four of them with INTs and fumbling once. He's also been sacked six times while completing a total of eight passes.
Fri, 26 Aug 2005 21:20:24 -0700 Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears QB Chad Hutchinson could have cost himself the starting job with a miserable performance Friday, Aug. 26 against the Buffalo Bills. He hit just 3-of-14 passes for 33 yards and two interceptions. He was booed by the crowd and sacked three times, posting a quarterback rating of 0.0. While he was expected to play into the third quarter, he was replaced at halftime.
Sat, 20 Aug 2005 20:39:50 -0700 Rick Morrissey, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears QB Chad Hutchinson struggled during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20. On his first three possessions against the Indianapolis Colts, Hutchinson threw an interception, fumbled on a sack and threw another interception. Mostly it was an awful start for Hutchinson, who held on to the ball too long and threw into coverage too often.
Wed, 17 Aug 2005 11:45:57 -0700 The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said that he feels there's no comparison when looking at QB Chad Hutchinson now and last year. "He's much more prepared," said Angelo of Hutchinson. "He's been with us an offseason. He's comfortable with the system. He just needs the reps. And we have plenty of time to give them to him now."
Wed, 17 Aug 2005 11:45:08 -0700 The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago Bears WR Justin Gage has developed a rapport with QB Chad Hutchinson. "Chad (has) been feeding the ball to me more," said Gage. "That could just be the plays and the way the defense is playing them. And it's the quarterback building confidence up. I definitely feel (QB Rex Grossman) had confidence in me. Rex is more of a guy who will do it by the book but also likes to take a chance. Chad right now is getting comfortable and doing (plays) more by the book."
Mon, 15 Aug 2005 11:03:44 -0700 K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears QB Chad Hutchinson was 1-4 as a starter last year, and was knocked because of his slow release and tendency to take too many sacks. Hutchinson has said he has improved on those aspects through game experience and off-season work on his footwork. "In our system, the most important thing is making quick decisions and getting rid of the ball," said Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner. "I say it all the time: 'I want the ball out of your hand. If it's out of your hand and complete for a 3-yard gain, that's fine.' I'd rather have the ball in someone's hand running with it than in the quarterback's hand. Chad's gotten better at that."
Mon, 15 Aug 2005 11:03:16 -0700 K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback is QB Chad Hutchinson's to lose. "I feel like I have the confidence of everybody on the team," said Hutchinson. "I was there last year. I stepped in with no reps and in the first game led us to victory. I know they have confidence in me, and I'm going to prove it again."
Sat, 13 Aug 2005 09:31:30 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears QB Chad Hutchinson is the team's new starting quarterback in the wake of QB Rex Grossman's (ankle) ankle injury. Offensive coordinator Ron Turner said there would be no competition between Hutchinson and rookie QB Kyle Orton.
Fri, 12 Aug 2005 12:26:27 -0700 John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the three Chicago Bears quarterbacks - QB Rex Grossman, QB Chad Hutchinson and rookie QB Kyle Orton - combined for an average of 9.2 yards per pass attempt in the Monday, Aug. 8, preseason game against the Miami Dolphins. In 2004, all Bears' quarterbacks averaged 5.61 yards per pass attempt. "I was pleased overall with the execution," said Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner. "We have things to clean up (but) I thought all that was pretty good."
