"We just wanted to get him in the system. We can always use another coach, especially if he's bilingual," said general manager Dayton Moore. Febles spent six years with the Royals, hitting .260 in 506 games from 1998-2003.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Febles may miss all of the 2005 season due to a torn knee ligament, but the team may have other plans for him. "We signed him not only as a player but as a potential coach," Royals assistant general manager Muzzy Jackson said. "We wanted to get him back in the organization because we've always been impressed with his character."
