Free-agent OF Frank Catalanotto (Mets) said he is through with playing, although not officially retired, according to David Lennon of Newsday. He has a part-time coaching job with Team Italy and is reportedly in demand for television and radio broadcasting jobs.

Mike Puma, of the New York Post, reports New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel said OF Christopher Carter is another option to fill in at first base while 1B Daniel Murphy (knee) is sidelined. 1B Mike Jacobs is the favorite to see the majority of playing time there. The team also has 1B Fernando Tatis. Carter is battling with OF Frank Catalanotto for the final roster spot.

Adam McCalvy, of MLB.com, reports the Milwaukee Brewers are not expecting to sign any of their nine free agents before Thursday, Nov. 19, which is the final day for teams to negotiate exclusively with their own free agents. The team's free agents are OF Mike Cameron, OF Frank Catalanotto, OF Corey Patterson, 3B Craig Counsell, 2B Felipe Lopez, C Jason Kendall, SP Braden Looper, SP Claudio Vargas and RP David Weathers. Cameron, Lopez, Kendall, Looper and Weathers are all Type B free agents.
