MLB | Roberto Alomar's wife accuses him for HIV exposure

Former MLB 2B Roberto Alomar's wife, Maria Del Pilar Rivera Alomar, has accused Alomar in divorce papers of having unprotected sex with her despite knowing that he is HIV-positive, The Associated Press reports. The lawsuit is the second in two years to accuse Alomar of having unprotected sex while knowingly carrying the virus. A former girlfriend, Ilya Dall, filed a lawsuit in February 2009 accusing him of having unprotected sex with her over the course of four years.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports former major league 2B Roberto Alomar, who fell just short of making the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, has been elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Globe and Mail's Robert MacLeod is reporting former Toronto Blue Jays 2B Roberto Alomar's name is on a list of guest coaches that manager Cito Gaston would like to have on hand at spring training, which starts in Florida next month.

The Baltimore Sun reports former Baltimore Orioles 2B Roberto Alomar was named on 397 out of 539 ballots (73.7 percent) submitted by eligible members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. To gain induction, he needed 75 percent, which this year was 405 votes. "I feel disappointed, but next year hopefully I make it in," Alomar said from his home. "At least I was close."

The Baltimore Sun's Peter Schmuck reports former Baltimore Orioles 2B Roberto Alomar, who famously spit in the face of umpire John Hirschbeck following a disputed called third strike in 1996, has an endorser for the Hall of Fame: Hirschbeck himself. "If I could vote, I would vote for him," Hirschbeck said. "I would love to see him go in." Results of this year's voting will be announced Wednesday, Jan. 6.

MLB | Fifteen newcomers on HOF ballot

According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

Blue Jays | Alomar still welcome as a guest instructor

Updating previous reports, Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said former All-Star 2B Roberto Alomar is still welcome to join the team as a guest instructor this spring, according to The Associated Press. "He's never been uninvited," Ricciardi said.
