Thome is working out in Arizona and is serious about resuming his playing career. He might desire a guaranteed roster spot, though.

The Baltimore Orioles are not expected to bring him back, though, as manager Buck Showalter would like to rotate his players in and out of the designated hitter spot to give them a rest. Right now, Thome is not viewed as an ideal fit for the team despite his positive clubhouse presence.

"If someone wants me to play, I'd consider it for sure. I feel good. If I didn't feel good, I wouldn't even consider it. But I feel good. I'd like to play." Thome said he'd consider playing for a National League team, although he admits his best chances are as a designated hitter.
