According to The Providence Journal, Tampa Bay Rays OF B.J. Upton's run-scoring single in the second inning of Game 2 of the World Series on Oct. 23 got him within three of the major league record for RBIs in a single postseason. The record is jointly held by Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz (2004), former Cleveland Indians C Sandy Alomar (1997) and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim IF Scott Spiezio (2002).

Braves | Spiezio pleads guilty

The Associated Press reports Atlanta Braves IF Scott Spiezio plead guilty Monday, April 7, to misdemeanor drunk driving and hit-and-run charges from an incident in December 2007. Spiezio was ordered to serve three years probation, undergo a three-month alcohol program, attend two Alcohol Anonymous meetings, complete 80 hours of community service and pay $839 in fines.

Braves | Spiezio signs

The Associated Press reports the Atlanta Braves signed IF Scott Spiezio (Cardinals) to a minor league contract. The 35-year-old Spiezio will work out with the Class A team in Rome on Tuesday, April 1, and report to Triple-A Richmond the following day.

The Associated Press reports free agent IF Scott Spiezio (Cardinals) will be arraigned on six charges, including drunk driving, April 7. Spiezio was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, March 26, but the case has been postponed.

Cardinals | Arrest warrant issued for Spiezio

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Cardinals IF Scott Spiezio has an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Irvine Police Department in Irvine, Calif., for six criminal charges. Spiezio has been charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, hit and run, aggravated assault, assault and battery. The charges are stemming from an incident that occurred last December when police officers found a car registered to Spiezio had crashed into a fence and witnesses had seen the driver fleeing from the scene. Spiezio reportedly arrived at his home shortly afterward and assaulted his neighbor, causing serious injuries.

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is upset with IF Scott Spiezio for showing up late to an autograph session to the team's annual Winter Warmup fan fest. "That's one dot off his resume," La Russa said. "I don't care what the excuse was, that's not a good way to get started."
