Updating previous reports, Florida Marlins minor league 1B Doug Mientkiewicz opted out of his contract with Triple-A New Orleans Thursday, May 13, according to Mike Triplett of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. The parent club had to call him up by Friday, May 14, or allow his 10-day contract to expire.

Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Doug Mientkiewicz was told he will not make the team's Opening Day roster, according to The Associated Press. Manager Joe Torre said Mientkiewicz expressed an interest in continuing his career and was excused from spring training camp so he could weigh his options Saturday, March 27.

Doug Miller, of MLB.com, reports Los Angeles Dodgers C Russell Martin (groin) and 1B Doug Mientkiewicz (shoulder) both received injections Tuesday, March 9. Martin had a platelet-rich plasma injection to promote healing in his injured right groin. Mientkiewicz had a cortisone injection in his sore throwing shoulder, which kept him out of action Tuesday.
