Washington Nationals 1B Travis Lee asked for, and was given, his unconditional release by the team, according to the Associated Press. Lee told general manager Jim Bowden that he doesn't want to play anymore.

Washington Nationals 1B Travis Lee (oblique) was able to take batting practice Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3, without feeling any pain, according to Bill Ladson of Washington.Nationals.MLB.com. He is hoping to play Monday, March 5 or Tuesday, March 6.

The Associated Press reports Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden and manager Manny Acta said it's unclear when 1B Nick Johnson (leg) will be able to play; Johnson broke his leg in a collision with OF Austin Kearns during a game in September. "We all know that we're going to miss Nick for at least the beginning of the season," Acta said. IF Travis Lee and IF Larry Broadway will compete for the starting job until Johnson returns.

The Associated Press reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1B Travis Lee (knee) bruised his right knee in the team's game Sunday, Aug. 20, after running into a wall down the first-base line while going after a foul ball in the eighth inning. He left in place of a pinch-hitter when his spot was due up in the bottom of the inning. Afterwards, Lee said he would be ready to play Monday, Aug. 21.
