Retired 1B Derrek Lee is believed to be intrigued by the opportunity to possibly play for the New York Yankees while 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) heals for the first month of the season. "I reached out to him. I expressed an interest," general manager Brian Cashman said. "He's the type of player that is Yankee-like in terms of capabilities when he was playing and makeup for the clubhouse and stuff like that. I just planted the seed, if you have an interest in thinking of playing, let me know. That was it."

Contrary to previous reports, a source claims that the Detroit Tigers are reportedly looking at free-agent OF/DH Johnny Damon (Rays). He appears to be a more likely candidate to join the team than free-agent 1B Derrek Lee (Pirates).
