MLB | Fifteen newcomers on HOF ballot

According to The Baltimore Sun, Roberto Alomar is among 15 first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot. Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin and Fred McGriff also are new to the ballot this year. There are 26 candidates, three more than last year. Also on the ballot for the first time are Kevin Appier, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile.

The Associated Press reports former MLB 2B Roberto Alomar, DH Edgar Martinez, SS Barry Larkin, 1B Fred McGriff, SP Kevin Appier, DH Ellis Burks, 1B Andres Galarraga, SP Pat Hentgen, RP Mike Jackson, 1B Eric Karros, OF Ray Lankford, P Shane Reynolds, 1B David Segui, 3B Robin Ventura and 1B Todd Zeile are first-time candidates on this year's Hall of Fame ballot.

MLB | Trio of ex-big leaguers hired for Fox baseball analysis

The Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein reports former Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi, Chicago Cubs 1B Mark Grace and Los Angeles Dodgers/Cubs 1B Eric Karros will work as analysts this year on the Fox television network's Saturday "Game of the Week" broadcasts. It is not known where they will be placed, although all three are expected to contribute both in studio and on the road.

Dodgers | Karros Returns To Team, Sort Of

The Los Angeles Daily News's Jill Painter and Rich Hammond report former Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Eric Karros returned to the Dodgers Thursday, Sept. 9, this time as a guest analyst for KFWB Radio. Karros said he plans on taking the rest of this year off but isn't sure about 2005. "I don't know yet, I haven't found a real void," Karros said. "I miss this time of year and the competition. If the right situation comes up, maybe I'd pursue the opportunity."

Updating a previous item, the Associated Press reports the Oakland Athletics released 1B Eric Karros Thursday, July 29. Karros had been designated for assignment two days earlier.

Mychael Urban, of Athletics.MLB.com, reports Oakland Athletics 1B Eric Karros, a right-hander, is not playing as much as he might against left-handed pitchers because the team's two hottest hitters are DH Erubiel Durazo and 1B Scott Hatteberg. With these two slots filled, there is no place left for Karros to start.

Karros, a right-handed batter, normally platoons and starts against left-handed pitchers.
