Rockies | Players will be rested

Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said all of the team's regulars will be rested a little more often this season with the average age of the team up from last season. 1B Todd Helton and 3B Casey Blake will have frequent days off, but O'Dowd also said they will look to spell SS Troy Tulowitzki and OF Carlos Gonzalez more.

Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton (back) has nearly mirrored last season's workout routine. His back still has good days and bad days, but he said he "will be ready in spring."

Rockies | Todd Helton likely done for year

Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton (back) continues to work out, but manager Jim Tracy doesn't see Helton returning to action this season. An MRI on Helton's back earlier this week showed no structural damage, so he isn't expected to need offseason surgery.

Rockies | Todd Helton has MRI

Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton (back) said an MRI exam on his back showed no structural damage. He has received a cortisone shot to relieve the pain. The team won't rush him back with their season practically over, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he didn't play for the rest of the schedule.

Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton (back) and SS Troy Tulowitzki (hip) were each able to take batting practice Monday, Sept. 19, and they participated in normal pregame baseball routine. They're each closer to being able to return before the regular season ends.
