The Atlanta Braves recalled P Anthony Varvaro and C J.C. Boscan Thursday, Sept. 1, and outrighted P Dustin Richardson and released 3B Wes Helms in corresponding moves.

The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent 3B Wes Helms (Marlins) to a minor league contract Wedneday, Aug. 17. Helms was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett, and he'll join the team in Charlotte Saturday, Aug. 20. He batted .191 with no homers and six RBIs in 69 games with Florida this season.

Florida Marlins OF Logan Morrison plans to consult the player's union to see if he has any grounds for a grievance against the team after he was demoted to Triple-A New Orleans Saturday, Aug. 13. "We are going to, with absolute certainty, explore this and contact the union and make sure Logan's rights are protected," Morrison's agent said.

Morrison balked at attending a team function Saturday, and consulted with now former 3B Wes Helms, the team's union rep, who advised him he didn't have to attend. Morrison was demoted, and Helms released, but the team said it was due to the player's performance on the field.

Florida Marlins 3B Wes Helms made his first career appearance at second base Wednesday, July 20, against the San Diego Padres. He went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts after coming on in the top of the seventh inning.

Florida Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said 1B Gaby Sanchez could play in two games as the designated hitter this weekend in interleague action. 3Bs Wes Helms, Greg Dobbs or Jose Lopez could play first base. SS Hanley Ramirez could be the DH Sunday, June 19.

Florida Marlins OF Logan Morrison (foot) went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run with Single-A Jupiter Wednesday, May 11, and is set on returning from the disabled list Friday, May 13.

Manager Edwin Rodriguez said that OF Emilio Bonifacio will likely be used off the bench when Morrison returns. 3Bs Greg Dobbs and Wes Helms will continue to receive starts at third base, but Bonifacio is also an option there.

Florida Marlins 3B Greg Dobbs has taken over the majority of playing time at third base, and manager Edwin Rodriguez is even thinking of starting him against Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee Wednesday, May 11. Dobbs has been part of a platoon at third with 3B Wes Helms.

However, with OF Logan Morrison (foot) returning later this week, OF Emilio Bonifacio could share more time at third with Dobbs. Morrison is scheduled to play for Single-A Jupiter Monday, May 9, as part of his rehab assignment.
