MLB | Four months sentence for Mark Grace

Former Arizona Diamondbacks television analyst and Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs 1B Mark Grace has been sentenced to four months in jail under a work-release program. Grace pleaded guilty Thursday, Jan. 31, to felony endangerment and misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.

Former Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Mark Grace has been indicted on four felony counts stemming from his August arrest in Scottsdale on suspicion of driving under the influence. A grand jury on Oct. 3 indicted Grace on four felony counts of aggravated driving or actual physical control while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

Chris De Luca, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports former MLB 1B Mark Grace said the Chicago Cubs "rolled over" for the second straight year in the playoffs, getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in three games in the NLDS. "They [bleeped] it up, honestly," said Grace. "That's twice now that this same group of players has gone out and played tight. I mean, come on, dude, are you kidding me?"

The Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein reports former Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi, Chicago Cubs 1B Mark Grace and Los Angeles Dodgers/Cubs 1B Eric Karros will work as analysts this year on the Fox television network's Saturday "Game of the Week" broadcasts. It is not known where they will be placed, although all three are expected to contribute both in studio and on the road.

Updating an earlier item, the Green Bay Press-Gazette confirms that former Milwaukee Brewers play-by-play announcer Daron Sutton has signed a five-year deal to announce games for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Financial terms were not disclosed. Sutton is the son of Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton and will be teamed with retired 1B Mark Grace on the Arizona broadcasts. The deal includes a three-year option that would extend through 2014.

The Chicago Tribune's Fred Mitchell reports former Chicago Cubs 1B Mark Grace, who left the team following the 2000 season and had strained relations with former team president Andy MacPhail, is interested in returning to Chicago under the right circumstances. It is not known whether Grace would coach, manage or simply work in the TV booth.

The Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan reports former Chicago Cubs 1B Mark Grace sang during the seventh-inning stretch Aug. 3 at Wrigley Field, ending a nearly seven-year feud with the club. Grace's contentious relations with his former team date back to after the 2000 season, when Grace left the Cubs to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a free agent.
