Cleveland Indians DH Jason Giambi (rib) will be out three to four weeks with a broken rib in his right side. He was hit by a pitch during the team's March 7 spring game, and an MRI exam revealed the fracture.
Fantasy Tip: Giambi is clinging to life at this point and isn't even a lock to make the major league roster, especially after this injury. If he plays at all this year, it'll be in limited at-bats as the DH. Nothing to see here.

Cleveland Indians 1B Jason Giambi is happy to be in camp with the team for another spring training. He is now 43 years old, and entering his 20th season. He is also a non-roster invitee to camp for the second straight season. "That's what happens when you're old," Giambi said Monday, Feb. 17. "They want a little bit of security, you know? They eventually feel that the rubber band is going to snap."

The Cleveland Indians released RP Chris Perez Thursday, Oct. 31, and re-signed 1B Jason Giambi to an undisclosed deal.
Fantasy Tip: Perez was demoted late in the regular season in favor of Joe Smith. Smith will likely enter spring training as the favorite to take the role over full time, but Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw could make some noise if Smith struggles out of the gates.

Cleveland Indians DH Jason Giambi said he would like to return next year for another season. "I love it here," he said. "I like the direction we're going." Giambi joked about recording his 2,000th hit Sunday, Sept. 8, saying, "It's a good accomplishment considering I can't run. It's more like 4,000."

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona praised 1B Jason Giambi for mentoring any and all players on the team this year. "I've never had a guy like this," Francona said. "He's like a walking manager in the clubhouse. People talk about how you need a veteran guy like this for your young players. Heck, with him, it's every player. There's not a player in that (locker) room he can't talk to -- and who isn't really happy to see him coming over. He's been so much help to me in this job, I can't even describe it."
Fantasy Tip: Although Giambi isn't making much of an impact on the field these days, his contributions mentoring the entire team has paid immediate dividends for the team's chemistry, it seems. File this under the category of intangibles. Unfortunately, it won't help out in fantasy circles.

Cleveland Indians 1B Jason Giambi cracked a solo home run Wednesday, April 17, against the Boston Red Sox. He became the third-oldest player in franchise history to hit a home run. Only Sam Rice (44) in 1934, and Hall of Famer Dave Winfield (43) in 1995 were older.
