Marlins | More managerial candidates

The Miami Marlins aren't necessarily looking for a candidate with tons of managerial experience to replace manager Ozzie Guillen. Former 3B Mike Lowell and OF Jeff Conine have been mentioned, along with Toronto Blue Jays Class A skipper Mike Redmond. The Marlins will need permission to speak with Redmond, but it isn't believed to be an issue. Miami will not consider former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

Marlins | Hanley Ramirez collects 1,000th hit

Florida Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez became the third player in team history to amass 1,000 career hits with a ninth-inning single Friday, July 15. Luis Castillo and Jeff Conine were the others with 1,000 hits.

MLB | Conine to compete in Ford Ironman World Championship

Marlins.MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports former MLB OF Jeff Conine will compete in the Ford Ironman World Championship in Hawaii Oct. 11. The Ford Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

Joe Frisaro, of Marlins.MLB.com, reports former MLB OF Jeff Conine has been invited to compete in the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. "I've always been a fan of watching the Ironman program on TV. The triathlon is something I've always wanted to do," Conine said.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports OF Jeff Conine (Mets) signed a one-day deal with the Florida Marlins Friday, March 28, and officially retired as a member of the Marlins.

Anthony DiComo, of Mets.MLB.com, reports the New York Mets have become the oldest team in Major League Baseball with the addition of OF Jeff Conine, 41. The average age of the Mets' roster and disabled list is 32 years, 187 days.
