Boston Red Sox hitting coach Greg Colbrunn, who had a serious health scare earlier this year, said he is unsure if he will return next season. The Red Sox finished tied for 12th in runs scored with 634. They were 14th in slugging percentage (.369), 12th in home runs (123), eighth in on-base percentage (.316) and 14th in OPS-plus (92). Boston was last in the league in batting average on the road (.233) and last in average with runners in scoring position (.237).

Boston Red Sox hitting coach Greg Colbrunn (brain) returned to the team Monday, June 30, nearly three weeks after suffering from a brain hemorrhage. He is expected to ease back into his duties before resuming a full-time schedule.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said hitting coach Greg Colbrunn (brain) is doing better but is expected to remain in the hospital for about a week after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Farrell said there is no timetable for Colbrunn's return.

Former 2B Craig Counsell has withdrawn his name for consideration for the Boston Red Sox's hitting coach position. The remaining candidates include Greg Colbrunn, Scott Fletcher, Victor Rodriguez and Rick Schu. It's believed that Boston will hire one of the remaining candidates as the hitting coach and another from the group to serve as the assistant.

Red Sox | Two to be interviewed for hitting coach vacancy

The Boston Red Sox will interview former MLB INFs Craig Counsell and Greg Colbrunn for their hitting coach vacancy this week. Counsell will be interviewed Monday, Nov. 19, while Colbrunn's date has not yet been determined. Former Arizona Diamondbacks hitting coach Rick Schu, Red Sox minor league hitting coordinator Victor Rodriguez and Atlanta Braves assistant hitting coach Scott Fletcher have already been interviewed. The team is still considering a two-coach approach to hitting instruction, although that idea will likely be based upon personnel.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Florida Marlins OF Cody Ross joined 3B Mike Lowell as the only Marlins to ever homer three times in one game. In addition, Ross matched Greg Colbrunn (July 18, 1995) and Gary Sheffield (Sept. 18, 1995) for most RBI in a game with seven.
