Kelly Blair, the owner of 1-on-1 Elite Personal Fitness bragged to friends and clients that he provided steroids to SP Roger Clemens, SP Andy Pettitte and 1B Jeff Bagwell. Blair denied the claims to federal investigators in March.

The Associated Press reports the Houston Astros have settled a lawsuit with the insurance company Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. after the team filed a claim to get back $15.6 million of injured 1B Jeff Bagwell's (shoulder) contract. In March, the insurance company told the Astros they were denying the club's claim for repayment. The Astros then appealed the denial in April after Bagwell was deemed too injured to play due to chronic shoulder problems. No details of the resolution were released.

The team declined his $18 million option, instead choosing to give him a $7 million buyout to close out the final season of a five-year, $85 million contract. "This is entirely a procedural matter," said his agent, Barry Axelrod. " ... Even players contemplating retirement complete the filing process ... our hope is that sometime in the near future, we will arrive at a long-term arrangement that will keep Jeff a part of the Astros family for many years."

"At this particular point, I probably don't see that," Bagwell said when asked if he will play elsewhere. "But I don't know. I know I'm a Houston Astro. I've done my time here. My first inkling right now is just to deal with the situation at hand."

Bagwell, who realizes he won't likely play baseball again, said any decision he made would be based on quality-of-life after baseball. He said he is going to leave it for the time being and in a month or two, if it feels better, he will likely leave it. In the report, Bagwell also said the long bone spurs in his shoulder are part of the problem preventing him from a successful return to the field but they aren't the main issue.

Alyson Footer, of Astros.MLB.com, reports Houston Astros 1B Jeff Bagwell (shoulder) took batting practice Tuesday, Sept. 6, but said he was unsure about his availability as a pinch-hitter for the weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Bagwell is expected to take another round of batting practice on Wednesday, Sept. 7. He said he was encouraged by Tuesday's session, but he's not making any predictions. "I have to get used to hitting again," Bagwell said. "It takes a while to get those muscles strong again, not just to actually hit. It's like when you're coming into Spring Training for the first time."
