Phillies | Decline options on three

The Philadelphia Phillies declined a $5.5 million mutual option with 3B Placido Polanco and paid him a $1 million buyout. They declined options on RP Jose Contreras ($2.5 million) and 1B Ty Wigginton ($4 million) as well, paying them $500,000 buyouts. OF Juan Pierre and C Brian Schneider are free agents and are unlikely to re-sign.

The Philadelphia Phillies have selected the contract of P Tyson Brummett from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He will join the club in Washington Monday, Oct. 1. In a corresponding move, C Brian Schneider (hamstring, ankle) has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Philadelphia Phillies C Erik Kratz has proved to be the starting catcher over C Brian Schneider with C Carlos Ruiz (foot) on the disabled list. Kratz is hitting .333 with 11 of his 15 hits going for extra bases. "He's durable. You can beat him up," manager Charlie Manuel said. "You can play him, muscle him around and everything, you can use him. You can treat him tough. That's a part I like about him."
