Braves | A.J. Pierzynski returning to Atlanta

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 15:41:58 -0800

Free-agent C A.J. Pierzynski has signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves for next season, according to sources. The deal is pending a physical, though.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski boasted a sneaky good 2015 stat line for cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only leagues, as he hit .300 and drove in 49 runs. However, entering his age-39 season, fewer starts and at-bats should be expected and the veteran should be viewed as a low-end option in those deep formats and left to the waiver wire in he majority of seasonal leagues.

Braves | Atlanta interested in several catchers

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 11:41:54 -0800

The Atlanta Braves would like to re-sign C A.J. Pierzynski this offseason, but they're also looking at free-agent Cs Matt Wieters and Chris Iannetta (Angels). The qualifying offer to Wieters diminishes some of Atlanta's interest.

Fantasy Tip: It was a shock to see Pierzynski hit .300 (122-for-407) at age 38 while becoming the team's starting catcher. That won't happen again, although he could be an ideal second catcher in two-catcher setups. Wieters has the most offensive upside and fantasy appeal here.

Twins | MIN interested in A.J. Pierzynski?

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 17:18:33 -0700

The Minnesota Twins may be interested in bringing back Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski, who will be eligible for free agency after the season. He started his major league career with Minnesota in 1998 and played there through the 2003 season.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski, who will turn 39 in December, is coming off a year where he batted .300 with nine home runs and 49 RBIs in 113 games. The Twins may be interested in using him in a platoon with Kurt Suzuki, with the left-handed-hitting Pierzynski facing most right-handed pitchers and Suzuki playing against most lefties.

Braves | Christian Bethancourt in ATL plans

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 00:57:04 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Christian Bethancourt is in the team's plans for 2016, but it is unclear whether the club will re-sign C A.J. Pierzynski or give the reins to Bethancourt full-time.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt will either be a mid to late round selection in NL leagues as a catcher or he will be a platoon player. Watch this situation in the offseason to see how it develops.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski sitting Game 1

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 07:31:52 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup of Game 1 of the doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, Oct. 4. C Ryan Lavarnway is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP John Lackey Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) could start the second game of the doubleheader, so check back for updates. Lavarnway ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is a desperation start in all fantasy formats Sunday, including at FantasyScore. After all, he owns a .587 OPS this season.

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with C Ryan Lavarnway hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Lavarnway ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) isn't much of an option against John Lackey on FantasyScore.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski sitting vs. Nats

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 14:21:01 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. C Christian Bethancourt is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Strasburg ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) has limited opponents to a .517 OPS over his past 13 starts, which makes Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) an extremely risky start at FantasyScore Thursday.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 13:07:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is out of the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino Saturday, Sept. 26. C Ryan Lavarnway will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Lavarnway ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is only batting .193 in 83 at-bats this year and is not a great catching option in FantasyScore tonight.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski out of lineup Friday

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 12:51:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not starting Friday, Sept. 18, against the Philadelphia Phillies. C Christian Bethancourt is hitting eighth against Phillies SP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is not batting because Morgan, a lefty, is pitching for the Phillies. Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is hitting .333 with four hits and a double in the past week, and he is a solid way to save a little money on your salary cap.
