Updating a previous report, Mark Bowman, of Braves.MLB.com, reports Atlanta Braves C Javy Lopez has decided to retire after being assigned to the team's minor league camp.

The Atlanta Braves have sent C Javy Lopez to minor league camp, according to the Associated Press. Lopez, who hit .188 during spring training, hasn't decided if he'll go to the minors.

David O'Brien, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Braves C Javy Lopez will draw a $750,000 salary if he makes the major league roster out of spring training. Lopez was signed to a minor league contract on Monday, Dec. 17.

Mark Bowman, of Braves.MLB.com, reports the Atlanta Braves might have an interest in C Javy Lopez (Rockies), who was released by the Colorado Rockies Monday, March 12. "Atlanta would be a great fit," said Chuck Berry, Lopez's agent. If signed, Lopez would serve as a backup behind C Brian McCann.

The Denver Post's Troy E. Renck reports Colorado Rockies C Javy Lopez would have to win the starting job in spring training in order to make the team, which would depend on his catching abilities returning to form. Rockies manager Clint Hurdle intends to carry only two catchers on the regular season roster. Lopez provides insurance in the event C Yorvit Torrealba (shoulder) has any further shoulder problems after two different trips to the disabled list in 2006. C Chris Iannetta is the other catcher in the mix.
