Fri, 03 May 2013 16:46:09 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Brandon Inge made his first career start in right field Friday, May 3, against the Washington Nationals.
Fri, 03 May 2013 13:47:28 -0700 The Pittsburgh Pirates placed 2B Neil Walker (hand) on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand laceration Friday, May 3, and recalled INF Jordy Mercer from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Walker's DL stint is retroactive to April 27. Fantasy Tip: Brandon Inge and John McDonald have split time at the keystone in Walker's absence. Inge should be your target in NL-only leagues if you need middle infield help. Mercer will likely be used for infield depth for the time being. The good news if you own Walker is that his DL stint was backdated to last Saturday, so he won't spend much time on the DL if he's ready to return soon.
Wed, 01 May 2013 10:37:20 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker (hand) will probably have a decision made by the organization on Friday, May 3, about whether he needs a DL stint. The Bucs may decide to make a roster move if he's made little progress by then. Fantasy Tip: Earlier reports indicated that Walker still hasn't been able to grip a bat. If that he can't hold one without feeling some discomfort by this theoretical deadline, a DL stint seems likely. Brandon Inge would probably continue to receive regular playing time and probably be somewhat useful in NL-only leagues, with a remote shot at the same in very deep mixed leagues.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 13:17:08 -0700 The Pittsburgh Pirates activated 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 23, and optioned OF Alex Presley to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Fantasy Tip: Inge is merely a backup at the hot corner to Pedro Alvarez in Pittsburgh, so unless Alvarez gets hurt is mired in a bad slump, Inge can be ignored in mostly all fantasy formats. Alvarez is hot lately, too.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 13:17:34 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) could remain on his rehab stint with Triple-A Indianapolis for the full time required. His rehab stint would expire April 24.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 17:08:23 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) will play second base for Triple-A Indianapolis Friday, April 5.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 14:04:37 -0700 The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed 3B Brandon Inge (scapula) on the 15-day disabled list because of a right scapula injury.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 10:21:10 -0700 The Pittsburgh Pirates added 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) and SP Jonathan Sanchez to the opening day roster Tuesday, March 26. Sanchez will be the team's No. 4 starter because SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) is dealing with a sore shoulder. "In spring training, he's looked much closer to the guy he was in 2011 and '10 than the guy who struggled in '12," general manager Neal Huntington said. "Jonathan's last two starts have been very encouraging. The offspeed pitches have been very effective and the fastball command has been good." Inge could open on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his right shoulder. He's played in only four games since being hit by a pitch March 14. Fantasy Tip: Sanchez isn't the type of pitcher that most fantasy baseball players look to add to their stable of pitchers because of his continuing control problems. If he can strike out hitters in bunches, though, he'll be useful again - at least in NL-only leagues.
Sat, 16 Feb 2013 17:29:15 -0800 Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Brandon Inge, OF Brad Hawpe and SP Jonathan Sanchez can opt out of their contracts if they are not on the active roster by late March.
Thu, 14 Feb 2013 18:34:36 -0800 Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said he has told 3B Brandon Inge that he likely will not win a starting job during spring training but could be a valuable bench player. "When I talked to him, I was very transparent, let him know the opportunity to break camp as a starter is [unlikely], unless there are injuries," Hurdle said. "But to come in and be able to help off the bench, the value in the National League of double-switching, and to give us that experience if somebody does go down and we have to go to a Plan B. There's a lot to like, with the intangibles as well as the tangibles. He's been a very good component on winning teams."
