Updating a previous report, Mark Sheldon, of MLB.com, reports the Cincinnati Reds re-signed C Ramon Hernandez to a one-year, $3 million deal with a vesting option for the 2011 season. Hernandez's option is worth $3.25 million and will become guaranteed if he appears in 120 games next year. C Ryan Hanigan will return to a backup role in 2010.

However, the team is trying to negotiate a new deal with their catcher. The buyout of Hernandez's option is worth $1 million. He is rated as a Type B free agent, which means the team would receive a first-round sandwich pick in the 2010 Draft if he is signed by another team. C Ryan Hanigan would likely serve as the starter if Hernandez departs.
