DH Travis Hafner was in the lineup at designated hitter, batting cleanup, while C Austin Romine got the nod behind the dish, batting ninth for manager Joe Girardi.

Despite a 6-for-57 slump at the plate with just one run batted in, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi will stick with OF Vernon Wells in left field. "I still consider Vernon an everyday player,'' Girardi said. "I may spell him a day off for (Lyle) Overbay, but I still think he is an everyday player.''

Fantasy Tip: Youk is hitting .263 with two homers in 19 spring at-bats. His long history of injuries will keep his price relatively low but, as a result, could make him an alluring bargain at a volatile position.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said there's no clear favorite for playing time between C's Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart, and the organization may not determine the split until the regular season begins. Girardi noted that each backstop did "a nice job with their staff" this spring. Cervelli and Stewart are out of minor league options.

Fantasy Tip: Mild prospect Austin Romine was also brought up earlier in the offseason as a candidate, but he was just sent to minor league camp and will be on call if they want to start his arbitration clock. He presents the most fantasy upside of this trio but is only a draft-day investment for AL-only pickers and an inseason free-agent target for two-catcher mixed leagues. Cervelli has a smidge more promise with the bat than Stewart, but neither should be on your dual-universe cheat sheet yet.

"He has to earn it,'' manager Joe Girardi said. "We have toyed with some different options, but we liked what he did at the end of last year. We know he provides a lot of excitement. Our plans are to keep him at short for the most part, but he has to go out and earn it.''
