Detroit Tigers C James McCann went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBI on Friday, June 3, against the Chicago White Sox. McCann attributed his success to eliminating the leg kick from his swing following a talk with manager Brad Ausmus earlier in the week.
"In Brad's terms, it looked like I was swinging underwater. And what it was, in my mind at least, because my timing was off. I was trying to start my swing before my foot was down. I just wanted to get my feet into the ground and allow my hands to work," McCann said.
Fantasy Tip: McCann entered Friday batting .150 for the year with a homer (which was also his only extra-base hit) in 25 games. The Tigers already prefer McCann's defense over Jarrod Saltalamacchia's, so anything the 25-year-old can do to help himself offensively will obviously lead to more playing time. Consider him an option in two-catcher or AL-only leagues for now, but owners should keep an eye on him over the next few games to see if he can replicate Friday's success anytime soon.

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (illness) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session without incident on Saturday, March 5, according to manager Brad Ausmus.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez was sent home Friday without a timetable for a return due to a bronchial issue, so this is good news for the injury-prone hurler. Ausmus said the 32-year-old will need to work at least one more bullpen session and a live batting practice before he's cleared to appear in Grapefruit League games. While he is still a decent source of wins and strikeouts when healthy, Sanchez can be avoided until the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus will return for the 2016 season despite speculation that he would be fired at the end of this season. General manager Al Avila confirmed that Ausmus will return after Detroit's game Saturday, Sept. 26. The rest of the Tigers coaching staff will return, too. This year will be the first time in five years that they will not be in the playoffs.

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus will be relieved of his duties after the season, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: It's not known if the team plans a full rebuild, but Miguel Cabrera ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Victor Martinez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) will continue to be everyday options on FantasyScore.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (triceps) could start the season on the disabled list, as manager Brad Ausmus told media "if we have to use it we could" when discussing Verlander's injury.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($6,500 FantasyScore, 13% of cap) would likely have his stint back-dated, which means he might miss one turn at most before going back in. He's still a solid draft in most leagues, but keep an eye on the triceps discomfort if it continues.

Omar Vizquel, who was signed as a first-base coach by the Detroit Tigers, may be drafted to play some games at shortstop. The idea was first thought of as a joke among the coaches, given the fact the team has had issues with keeping shortstops healthy, but there was a bit of seriousness to the thought. Vizquel has taken ground balls off and on all spring, just to help provide hands-on instruction to the Tigers' young infielders. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus stressed the idea won't likely happen.

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (shins) continues to be sidelined because of shin splints and is receiving treatment for the injuries. Manager Brad Ausmus indicated Iglesias will need to return soon if he wants to be ready for the start of the season. "We're going to hit that point in Spring Training where there won't be enough games for him to get at-bats to be ready for the season," Ausmus said. "We've talked about it internally. We haven't set a firm date on that, but there is going to be a point where if he can't get on the field because of the injury, we're going to have to make a decision."
