Zimmerman has not pitched in more than eight years. The team was impressed with his conditioning during recent workouts and he reached 90 mph on the radar gun. Zimmerman will begin in extended Spring Training Wednesday, April 8. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Zimmerman, who had elbow surgery Wednesday, April 7, is still a long way from returning. "It was not as easy as I had hoped, but I did get on the mound and throw a few pitches downhill," Zimmerman said. "So it was a step. It's a huge jump from flat ground."
