Shortstop B.J. Upton, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' No. 1 draft pick last season, took his first swings against live pitching during Thursday's batting practice session, according to the Tampa Tribune. Upton swung and missed two Bobby Seay pitches before tapping a single up the middle. Later, against Bob Wells, Upton was hit in the back.
