Royals.MLB.com's Dick Kaegel reports Kansas City Royals RP Greg Swindell may retire after failing to make the Opening Day roster. "My agent is asking around, but the rosters are set," said Swindell.

Updating a previous report, the AP reports P Greg Swindell was formally released by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 38-year-old pitcher had been designated for assignment in late March and can now sign with any team.

The AP’s Bob Baum reports SP Greg Swindell was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Swindell can be traded or claimed by another team off of waivers over the next 10 days before becoming a free agent. Swindell had a 6.10 spring ERA.

Diamondbacks | Swindell Learning to Throw Knuckleball

MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert reports Arizona Diamondbacks P Greg Swindell is tinkering with a knuckleball in Spring Training. Swindell has thrown the pitch before, but never considered adding it to his arsenal. Swindell had good movement on the pitch while throwing on the sidelines, drawing interest from pitching coach Chuck Kniffin and manager Bob Brenly. Swindell will continue to work on location, and may try the pitch later in spring against live batters.
