Tue, 28 Aug 2007 18:44:32 -0700 MLB.com's Spencer Fordin reports the Baltimore Orioles designated veteran RP Paul Shuey for assignment Tuesday, Aug. 28. Shuey (hip) has had four operations on his right hip, including one in July 2006 that covered the ball of his hip joint in a Swiss metal, and hasn't been able to be an everyday pitcher, but he thinks he can still pitch another year after sitting out the 2004-06 seasons. Shuey had a 9.82 ERA this year.

"It's coming real quick right now," he said. "I went for basically a week and felt like I made no progress, and then over the last two or three days, [it's been better]. It was nice having that off-day. I felt good the day before the off-day, and I was throwing in the cages a little bit, trying to loosen it up. Yesterday, I spent a lot of time in the pool, running." Shuey will likely begin the season at Triple-A Norfolk.
Fri, 09 Mar 2007 22:25:10 -0800 Baltimore Orioles RP Paul Shuey (Achilles') is expected to miss at least two weeks, after having strained his right Achilles' tendon, Friday, March 9, against the Washington Nationals, according to the Associated Press. Shuey was attempting to cover the plate on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, when his right foot collapsed under him. He was seen after the game using crutches and wearing a protective boot on his right foot.
Fri, 02 Feb 2007 22:44:54 -0800 Updating previous reports, Baltimore Orioles RP Paul Shuey would receive a $650,000, one-year contract if he makes the major league roster, and could receive an additional $1 million in performance bonuses. Shuey could earn $50,000 each for 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 games, and $100,000 each for 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70 games. He would also receive $25,000 each for 10 and 15 games finished, $50,000 each for 20 and 25 games finished and $100,000 for 30 games finished, according to the Associated Press.
