He was released from jail Sunday, Sept. 14, on $20,000 bond. Puffer's felony is punishable by up to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Puffer, recalled from Triple-A Portland, needed 13 hours to get from Memphis to San Diego. Bad weather kept Puffer's plane at the gate for more than four hours. Then, once in line for takeoff, the plane had to return to the gate for more fuel. "When I got on the plane, I fell asleep," said Puffer. "When I awoke about two hours later, I thought we'd be close to San Diego. But when I looked out the window, we were still on the ground. The worst part is when we get in line and the pilot comes on the sound system and says we're 35th in line."
