The San Diego Union-Tribune's Bill Center reports San Diego Padres P Brandon Puffer almost didn't make it to Petco Park for his first major-league game of the season on Thursday, May 13. Puffer, recalled from Triple-A Portland, needed 13 hours to get from Memphis to San Diego. Bad weather kept Puffer's plane at the gate for more than four hours. Then, once in line for takeoff, the plane had to return to the gate for more fuel. "When I got on the plane, I fell asleep," said Puffer. "When I awoke about two hours later, I thought we'd be close to San Diego. But when I looked out the window, we were still on the ground. The worst part is when we get in line and the pilot comes on the sound system and says we're 35th in line."
