Updating previous reports, Mark Bowman, of Braves.MLB.com, says the injury to Atlanta Braves RP Jay Powell (humerus) is likely career-ending, and that he has a very good chance of suffering another similar fracture if he attempted to pitch again.

The Sports Network reports Atlanta Braves RP Jay Powell (elbow) underwent season-ending surgery on his fractured right humerus bone. Powell, who was making his comeback from Tommy John surgery, suffered a nightmarish injury when he blew out his arm in the ninth inning of Friday's game against Pittsburgh. He went into his windup with nobody out and delivered a pitch to home plate, but the ball sailed toward the third-base line while Powell collapsed with devastating pain in his right elbow.

Atlanta Braves RP Jay Powell (elbow) suffered a severe right elbow injury during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to Tom Saladino of the Associated Press, and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. "He was in tremendous pain," Braves MAN Bobby Cox said. "He could barely walk, the pain in his elbow was so severe."

Updating an earlier item, Ronald Blum, of the Associated Press, reports free agent P Jay Powell reached a preliminary agreement on a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves Thursday, Jan. 27, that would pay him an undisclosed amount if he is added to the team's major league roster.
