Diggs was injured during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 24. Head coach John Fox did not have the details on the extent of the injury and Diggs was replaced by LB Keith Adams Thursday. The team could use LB Chris Draft or LB Adam Seward if Diggs is out for a long time.

The agent said five teams are in the mix. According to sources, Adams has been seeking a signing bonus exceeding what Washington is offering. The Redskins have been looking to sign experienced players for close to the veteran minimum. Woy said that Adams expects to make a decision on his new team in the next day or two.

However, Simoneau is determined to make it a difficult decision for the coaching staff despite his unfamiliarity with the position. "I would like to be the guy playing every day on defense," Simoneau said. "The situation [at linebacker now] didn't work like that. I'm going to be a professional about it. I'm just looking to help out on the field any way that I can." Simoneau will likely begin the season on special teams.

Simoneau isn't conceding the position to Adams just yet. Simoneau said his battle isn't going to be with Adams as much as with himself. "The competition is that you're trying to be the best you can be," he said. "In the end, you're not going to make the decision, you're just playing. You're out to sway the coaches' decision, and after that, you just play where they put you."
