The Associated Press reports former San Francisco Giants CL Robb Nen (shoulder) pitched through pain in 2002, knowing he was doing further damage to his shoulder and needed surgery. "What he did to stay on the field in 2002, he jeopardized his career," Giants reliever Jason Christiansen said. "He put the team above himself. Everybody who was here in 2002 has so much respect for what he did. If it hadn't been for him, we wouldn't have gone to the World Series."

Sports Network reports CL Robb Nen, the all-time saves leader for the San Francisco Giants, announced his retirement from baseball Sunday, Feb. 20. "I'm 99 percent sure," said Nen (shoulder). "If I get a wild hair about coming back, and six or eight months from now I pick up a ball and feel good again, I might think about it. But that's probably not going to happen."

Updating previous items, Rich Draper, of Giants.MLB.com, reports former San Francisco Giants CL Robb Nen (shoulder) is still planning on attempting a comeback. However, Nen's rotator cuff is 70 percent torn and can't be fixed by surgery, Giants trainer Stan Conte said Tuesday, Nov. 30. Nen, now a free agent, plans on pitching off a mound near his home around mid-December. "I'm pessimistic that Robb will come back as he's failed everything so far," said Conte. "It's unrealistic, but stranger things have happened. He's thrown off flat ground with no pain, which is all positive. But unless he throws full speed we won't know."

Joe Roderick, of Contra Costa Times, reports the San Francisco Giants could sign former CL Robb Nen to a minor league deal for the 2005 season. Nen hasn't pitched since Game 6 of the 2002 World Series. After making $9.15 million in 2004, Nen will be a free agent.
