Todd Zolecki, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Phillies RP Kane Davis has been moved ahead of relievers Antonio Alfonseca and Jose Mesa in the Phillies' bullpen. In three appearances, Davis has gone 0-1 with a 4.90 while Alfonseca has a 30.38 ERA in his last six appearances and Mesa has a 19.50 ERA in his last seven.

The Associated Press reports the Detroit Tigers released RP Jose Mesa Sunday, June 3. The veteran right-hander had been 1-1 with a 12.34 ERA in 16 appearances this season. "They gave me a chance and I didn't do my job," said Mesa. "I'll see what is out there and if there's nothing, I'll go home and relax. If this is it, I'm happy with [my career]." Mesa had appeared in 982 games over his career and ranks 13th on the career save list with 320 saves.

Jason Beck, of Detroit.Tigers.MLB.com, reports Detroit Tigers RP Jose Mesa (groin) allowed just two singles over two scoreless innings with one strikeout Tuesday, May 1, for Triple-A Toledo. If Mesa reports no pain Wednesday, May 2, it will likely be his final rehab start and he could be activated off the disabled list Friday, May 4.

The Detroit News reports Detroit Tigers RP Jose Mesa (groin) will report to Triple-A Toledo May 1 for a rehabilitation appearance with the Mud Hens. If all goes well, Mesa could return to Detroit and be reactivated by May 4. Mesa has been on the disabled list since April 17.
